I am back again on Traineo, after a very long time away. Reason? I gained back some of the weight I lost. Time to work out again.

Happy news: some of the GO5 proposals that I submitted by the horrible deadline were actually accepted! I just finished the final revisions of the observing programs. Let's hope the LHe on Spitzer lasts much longer than anyone expects.

I survived the GO5 deadline! And that is the last one, ever, for SIRTF (aka Spitzer Space Telescope) -- at least for the science I care about. Farewell, little SIRTF! I felt like a huge weight was lifted from me.

I will still have to find ways to pay my salary, but the clock won't be ticking the way it was with SIRTF. It was really hard to work on a project where you knew if you screwed up, you couldn't come back and try again, because the entire thing would die in 5 years. Now I can just concentrate on doing good science.

I stopped exercising for most of the time before the GO5 deadline, and am just now recovered enough to start again. Feels good to be moving again. I hope moving will help with the intense amount of physical tension my body was in during GO5 (and still is).

Of course I gained "GO5 weight" :) I was living on junk food! But it was just 2 lbs. I guess stress burns calories. I wonder if I can log insomnia, depression, losing my temper, and anxiety?

hey kris. yeah, I'm back. I'd hate to say reasons, but they might just sound like excuses. life is always intense for me. My older friends who graduated college and are working in their professional field says that life will significantly get less hectic by 27 or 28 or once I get a pee-on boyfriend, .. i forget. i think they were joking on the latter. Well, I got to get some zzz. hope you're taking care of yourself and losing some. and yeah, i won at the casino, but hadn't had the time to spend it on anything except food. I was thinking of getting myself some new dorky eyeglasses; my 3 year old 40 dollar glasses, metal parts are turning green on me. eww.

sure! I'll be your motivator! thanks for the add, btw. It looks like you're over your halfway mark. I wish I could buy time so I could burn this weight off faster and be where you're at. I'm losing pretty fast for a couple days, but I think it's just water weight for now. no cause for concern.

Thank you for writing to me! It is comforting to know there are others here with similar struggles. Like your hair, by the way! Mine used to be pink. I just might go back, wha-ha-haaa.

Aiiiieeee! Negative progress on the weight front, for the first time in months. I think it is because I feel like eating again; I didn't feel like eating for months, and I ate just enough to get through the food pyramid and daily requirements of xyz (except for sugar, of course; sugar in any form always looks appealing). Now I feel hungry, and I think my hypoglycemia is coming back. Maybe this is the effect of having less fat reserves to draw on? Or maybe this is the effect of having cut gluten out of my diet (which I have done as an experiment to see if I would feel better).

I survived GO4! I got my proposal in on time (with 30 seconds to spare)! I didn't have a nervous breakdown, get sick, or gain weight! Yay Kris!

oops, that doesn't sound too well.... but hey, why wouldn't they accept it?! It might be just what they need and have been waiting for all along. Keep up the spirit!

Thanks for the encouragement, Els! I'm so glad you survived your deadline! Maybe I will survive mine.

Oh well, what's the worst that can happen? I'll feel frustrated and humiliated, I will have wasted a month of work on spacecraft pointing commands that won't be executed, I won't get paid for 2-6 months, and I will lose a year of retirement credit in our pension system. That isn't the end of the world!

You can do it, Kris! It's amazing you don't skip the exercising. You know you are doing the best you can, nobody can ask for more!

FIVE days left til the GO4 deadline, and I have fifteen days worth of work left to do... I am in total despair. The only thing that keeps me from skipping exercise completely is knowing that my FM gets worse if I stop exercising.

Hi Kris,
I survived my deadline and my bum is defrosting!
How's your work? Do you think you'll make it in time? Do you dream of clocks ticking away?
Keep dancing with those dishes!

Don't have a video camera, so I'm not gracing UTube (yet) with me doing Silly Walks to the beat while wearing my new iPod. Good suggestion though!

All our warm sunny days have fled, leaving me faced with (1) walk outside where it is freezing cold, (2) join a gym, (3) figure out how to exercise inside.

The good news: David agreed to buying a treadmill for our house! Yay! I will go treadmill shopping after Feb. 14 aka The GO4 Deadline.

Wow! David gave me a nanoPod for the holidays! Now I can play bouncy music on my walks to pace me on days when I'm dragging or distracted. Constructing a playlist at the right rhythm is proving challenging - many favorite bouncy songs are too fast or too slow - but this is fun!

I survived the holidays without gaining weight! Yay! In fact, my scale says I *lost* weight. Maybe my scale is broken :) Or maybe, running around with my 5-yr-old nephew was more exercise than I thought!

Paper 2 is accepted!!! and David has been offered the job he has been waiting for!! I am walking on air.

Good thing because airline travel to my sister's has flared up my FM :) I need to keep moving despite the pain. So my doctor says. And I did feel better yesterday after taking a walk.

Aiiee! I was feeling really great, because I had finally broken through the 170 lb barrier and was down to 168 lbs, and then today I am back up to 170 1bs. My net weight loss over the past month has been 1 lb.

I guess I need to be more faithful about exercise, increase the length of my walks, and pay more attention to the calories. Sigh.

I should keep the big picture in mind: when I decided to do this, I was 178 lbs, so overall I am down 8 lbs and am that much farther from diabetes/stroke/heart disease. And that is the point of this, along with decreasing the FM pain.

I am SO excited that I have re-submitted Paper 2 for publication! (This is a work milestone, 20 months in coming.) I tried very hard not to celebrate with sugar, but I fell off the wagon with a last-minute impulse buy at the store on the way home, and then David tempted me with an offer of additional sugar. Just this one day, though, I am going to feel unqualifiedly good about myself!

Breakthrough! I've discovered that if I wear two polartec nightgowns under a long coat, that is warm enough to walk outside in a skirt in winter. Gosh, it would be nice to be thin enough to walk for 30 min in flannel-lined jeans, and not have the insides of my thighs rubbed raw, but until I'm thinner I have to walk in skirts. How do fat men solve this problem? Callouses?

You're a GOOD girl! And as the frigde is full with celery stalks and carrots, it was a healthy trip anyway.

Hi Liz,

It's 30 seconds to the fridge, 30 seconds back :)
I log 1 minute of walking on days of no exercise, so that instead of there being no log, there's a log of my doing nothing. The downwards zags into 3 calories burned make it very clear on my training graph how faithful I have been with exercise!

Hi Kriss,
Good luck with the walking! You've been busy the last week. I love your entry of a 1 minute walk. Where did you go? And did you come back?
Keep up the good work/walk!

I did exercize in Arizona a little, but I fell into the evil clutches of Sugar. I haven't weighed myself but I bet the news is not good. At least I had a good time swimming in the pool and floating in the enormous jacuzzi. Scottsdale Plaza Inn recommended for these two things.

I'm off to AZ for two days of boring committee work then 2 days visiting Leslie. I bet I don't have time to exercize during the meeting, but I hope that Leslie and I go hiking, or at least walk around her neighborhood which is so beautiful. Here's hoping I find time to exercise and that I stay away from SUGAR on this trip!!!

David came back from 7/11 with a dozen donuts, and offered them to me. I went into a sugar addict tizzy, alternately insisting I wanted no donuts whatsoever and trying to get him to give me half of them. After an hour he threw them out and said he wouldn't be an enabler. Isn't that heroic of David? He could have locked himself in his car and eaten them instead :)
I am skating on the edge of the last of the good fall weather, and have not yet faced up to needing to get a gym membership for winter. I have delusions that I can make myself walk outside for 30 mins in winter. Yeah right.

Last week I only walked one day (today). Depressed slothful slug eating candy every night, not to mention sweets at two going-away parties. I'm religious about veggies, fruit, whole grains, non-fat milk/yogurt as always, but no yay Kris this week.
I could use a call on the weekend telling me to hang up the phone, take a walk, then call back to report in half an hour :)

Walked 4 days last week (Tu W Th Su), also got out of breath lugging laundry around (Sa, Su), 2 days bad FM (M, F) so 5/7 days of exercise was as much as I could handle. Yay Kris!
Fell badly off pizza wagon Sa, otherwise diet pretty good.
